Conceptual designs for Depots along the Trail de Paris.
The Trail de Paris runs roughly 2.75 miles from 8th Street SE to Loop 286 near its intersection with U.S. Hwy 271 S. Leadership Lamar County Class member Steve May of the Texas Department of Transportation utilized his skills as a landscape engineer to develop the concepts and drawings shown here. Once funding for construction of the trail surface has been secured, we would like to develop these Depots at significant access points. Tying into the railroad theme of the trails, Steve's designs hope to incorporate the feel of the old Train Depots which used to be the mainstay of travel and transportation throughout the country.
Depot 1 would combine a parking and warm up areas with the Depot structure near the current projected terminus of the trail. The 12th Street intersection seems more suited to this use than the 8th Street junction, which is where future phases of the trail will need to begin sharing rights-of-way with existing rail lines.
Depot 2 is being planned as the main entrance to the Trail de Paris. With it's Collegiate Ave. access falling on Paris Junior College's campus — just north of the Love Civic Center entrance and only a few hundred feet from the new Paris Police Station — this facility should sparkle as the show piece of the Trail. This depot will be very close to the soccerfields and Dragon Park as well.
Depot 3 will connect one of the most beautifully canopied sections of the Trail de Paris to the new Sport Complex, walking trails and fishing pond behind Love Civic Center. As access to this Depot will be gained by trail use alone, only bike parking areas will be needed.
We currently do not have the funds to develop any of these gorgeous depot ideas.
All of our current funds are allocated to the prep and surfacing of the actual trail.
